Access to starting point:
The Valbonë Valley is located in the hard-to-reach northeastern part of Albania. The easiest way to reach it from the west is by a long, several-hour drive on a very winding and sometimes poor road from Skadra via the places Pukë and Bajram Curri. Part of the route can be covered by ferry on Lake Komani (in this case, we do not go through Pukë).
In the Valbonë Valley there is a place of the same name. The starting point for the ascent is at the first left bend in the place Valbonë. At this bend the valley opens up nicely, we see a huge torrent debris cone and quite a few houses. At the bend, to the right of the road, there is a concrete bridge. Next to the bridge is a large wooden signpost indicating the start of the path to Maja e Kollatës. We park in the small parking lot at the bend.
Path description:
Cross the river over the bridge, turn left after the bridge, then after just 1 minute (ca 50 m) head right uphill among the boulders (marked, clearly visible). Then follow the marks across the partially overgrown, increasingly steep slope, roughly in a northerly direction. After 2:00 hours of steep ascent reach a scenic little balcony (ca 1500 m).
From there it is just a couple of minutes to the path fork. At the fork (no longer marked! but the stake is still visible) take the left path (the right leads to the peaks of the Kolata massif). It first leads across a steep grassy slope (partly also downhill) and then on a gentle ascent through the forest. When the terrain opens up, we are only a couple of minutes from the viewpoint. From the balcony 0:30.
