Vikrče - Šmarna gora (learning trail)

Access to starting point:
A) From the Ljubljana - Jesenice highway we take the Ljubljana - Šmartno exit, then continue driving towards Tacen. In Tacen just before the road over the bridge crosses the Sava river we continue slightly right in the direction of Pirniče. Only a little after Ljubljana ends, we arrive in Vikrče, and we follow the road to the inn Kovač, which is located right next to the bus stop. At the starting point there are no suitable parking spots.
B) From Šentvid we drive to Tacen, there immediately after the bridge over the Sava river left towards Pirniče. Only a little after Ljubljana ends, we arrive in Vikrče, and we follow the road to the inn Kovač, which is located right next to the bus stop. At the starting point there are no suitable parking spots.
C) From Medvode we drive to Zgornje and then to Spodnje Pirniče, and we follow the road towards Tacen. When we arrive in Vikrče, we join the road which leads from Smlednik towards Tacen, and here we continue right and follow the road to the nearby inn Kovač, where the starting point of our path is. At the starting point there are no suitable parking spots.
D) We can also reach the starting point with LPP bus number 15.

Path description:
Behind the inn Kovač we continue right into the forest, where we immediately arrive at a junction of two marked paths. We choose the left path with signs Kovačeva steza (slightly right Westrova pot), which starts ascending transversely towards the left. After a short ascent we arrive at the next junctions, where we continue on the left lower path in the direction of the učna pot (slightly right Kovačeva steza). A little further we join a cart track, which we follow to the left, and walk along it to the water reservoir. Immediately after the water reservoir we continue right into the forest (if we continue straight we descend to Spodnje Pirniče) through which we first start only gently ascending. Further the path leads us past the abandoned quarry, and a little further we join the better-trodden path of the Lipa club.
The path continues through the forest, through which it gradually starts to ascend more steeply. For some time we ascend steeply, then the path levels out and brings us to the place where we join the relatively steep road that leads from Zavrh towards Šmarna gora.
We continue the ascent along the road, which further leads past the NOB monument and a few meters further past the plague or Turkish column. Higher up the road turns somewhat more to the left and brings us from the forest to panoramic slopes. With a view of the summit of Šmarna gora and the Kamnik Savinja Alps we quickly arrive at the Gorjanc homestead, from which a short walk follows to the marked junction Na Sedlu.
Here we continue left further along the road, which soon splits into two parts. We can continue the ascent along the road, in which case we ascend to the summit past the wish bell, or continue right along the marked footpath, which past the chapel of St. Sobota also brings us to the summit of Šmarna gora.
