Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora we drive towards Bovec or in the opposite direction, but only as far as the Vršič pass, where we park.
Route description:
From the parking lot at the Vršič pass we head onto the marked path in the direction of Mala Mojstrovka and Slemenova špica. The path quickly splits, and we choose the left path towards Mala Mojstrovka (right is Slemenova špica and Hanzova pot to Mala Mojstrovka). This is followed by a traverse ascent to the left, where we first go through a belt of shrubs, then we arrive among dwarf pines and a sparse larch forest, through which a wide, mostly stony path leads. After about half an hour of ascent we reach a larger scree slope, where an unmarked path branches off to the right to Šitna glava, while straight ahead the marked path continues towards Mala Mojstrovka.
We continue the ascent along the unmarked path, which leads us in a slight traverse ascent to the right towards the slopes of Šitna glava. The relatively well-visible trail soon brings us into an indistinct little valley between Mala Mojstrovka and Šitna glava. Here the path turns slightly left and ascends somewhat more steeply on an increasingly stony slope. When the path already approaches the summit quite closely, it turns right, crosses a partially overgrown scree slope and then ascends to the grassy summit of Šitna glava.

Vršič - junction from the marked path 0:35, junction from the marked path - Šitna glava 0:45.

Discussion about the trip Vršič - Šitna glava

From Šitna glava, which is overgrown with green grass, you can peacefully observe the hustle on Mojstrovka. I recommend it.

Hi!

But how do you go via Hanzova and then at the saddle instead of to Mojstrovka you turn left?
Thanksnasmehnasmeh

Is there still any snow patch on the path? What about Mojstrovka, is there still snow?
Tadej27. 06. 2008
Up to Šitna glava and further to Mojstrovka it's dry.
Kriška27. 07. 2009
You can ascend Šitna glava via the unmarked trail mentioned above, or via the "lower" one, which currently looks more trodden and is densely marked with cairns. If you take the second one, I recommend turning right before the last very steep scree (the cairn-marked path leads slightly left), and reach the summit over firmer terrain with less incline. A photo of the section is added under "current conditions".

Does anyone know what the path is like now? Is it icy? Is an ice axe really necessary, or do crampons suffice? Thanks for the reply.
IgorZlodej7. 11. 2012
Ice axe and crampons are generally used together. Haven't seen the path from Triglav, but there's definitely some powder snow where neither one nor the other will help much or at all.

Thanks Igor

today it was like an anthill at Vršič, and there was already a queue on Mojstrovka in the morning, it was balm for the soul to enjoy the silence at Šitna glava, I went to Mojstrovka a bit later when the crowd had thinned, it was a wonderful sunny daynasmeh, recommend

Yesterday from Vršič to Šitna glava, summer weather, no crowds, unlike the path to Mojstrovka! The path is nicely traceable with cairns placed. From the top, a beautiful view and enjoyment of solitude!

Easily accessible two-thousander above Vršič. The path is nice and the slope isn't steep. In fine weather the views must be wonderful.smile

3.10. The path was slightly snowy, higher up even frozen snow. Vršič pass almost empty. But on the summit, heaven. I haven't had such views of Vršič and surroundings yetnasmeh

I wouldn't exactly put the path in the easy category, but it's true that it doesn't belong in the partially demanding category either, maybe somewhere in between, and it's a shame because there's no summit logbook and stamp up there. The view is wonderful though.

If this path isn't easy, in all respects, then none iszavijanje
Majdag30. 12. 2018

29.12. The path is frozen, without crampons they had quite some trouble. Šitna glava has little visitors, but it's a nice mountain. On frozen snow greater caution is needed of course, risk of slipping. Views from the top wonderful.nasmeh

We conquered this peak this week casually on the way to Mala Mojstrovka.
Even if I went only to Šitna glava and back - there is an abundance of wonderful views, flowers (huge number of Triglav roses below the summit), above all dear peace and quiet - unlike Vršič and other besieged peaks. The trail is easy to follow, with cairns all the way.
In fact, it is one of our easiest two-thousanders. We will definitely return here. nasmeh I recommend it!

Exceptionally beautiful peak, wonderful views and a specialty that I hope doesn't change: uncrowded. Best regards

16.1... The path and ascent to the summit icy, in the morning hours. On the descent the snow had already softened and I used poles. Views beautiful, mountains wonderful, but quite steep and you meet no one.nasmeh

On 19.9. I was at Nad Šitom glava. I wouldn't classify this path as easy either. It's probably the quickest accessible two-thousander, but certainly not the easiest. And I'm very experienced in walking unmarked paths and off-trail. After branching off the marked path, it first goes nicely across and is easy and clearly visible, but when it starts ascending steeper, it's annoyingly scree-covered in places and hard to follow. I didn't see many cairns. Logically, I followed the steep scree directly upwards and only higher crossed to the right, which turned out right, as I then traced the path again that led towards the summit. On descent, the path was somewhat easier to follow. Next time I go, it will surely be much easier, as now I have clear orientation, but on the first visit it's not that easy because the path gets lost in the middle. I wouldn't recommend it to those not used to poorer unmarked paths or families with small children, as it's neither technically nor orientation-wise quite simple.

HRIBI.NET - If I click on the map on this page, empty content appears. Where is the map?

Otherwise great photos and excellent instructions, so we won't just criticize! nasmeh

My note was by no means meant as criticism but just a description of the real situation, which might help someone in the future. Good luck!

26/9 - first snow of the season... Šitna glava was a better alternative to Mojstrovka, where ice was melting and flying from the wall

18.9.....Vršič and dance of mists. Promised a nice ramble, but the mists overtook us too quickly. At the top everything was already gray. And a strong wind started and it was cold. I like mists, but there were no views. Šitna glava is a nice two-thousander.nasmeh Just before Grebenc, right, there's a red line on a rock and the path follows it nicely..nasmeh

michael66, views in shades of gray. Next time though, no need to despair..nasmeh
