Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Kamnik, and then we continue driving in the direction of the Črnivec pass. Just a few hundred meters before the mentioned pass we notice signs for Kranjski Rak, which direct us sharply left onto a narrow and at first also quite steep road. The road flattens higher up and then brings us to the Volovjek pass, where immediately behind the Kranjski Rak inn we turn left onto the road in the direction of Velika planina. Further on, we drive on a macadam road, which higher up brings us to the next somewhat larger crossroads. We continue right (straight Planina Kisovec) and follow the moderately ascending road to the larger and marked parking lot Za Ušivcem.
B) From the Savinjska valley we first drive to Luče, and then we continue driving towards Kamnik. When we arrive at the Volovjek pass (Kranjski Rak) we continue right in the direction of Velika planina. Further, we follow the above description.
Route description:
By the parking lot we notice signs for Mala and Velika planina, which direct us into the forest, onto a well-beaten but unmarked footpath. The path first ascends through the forest, then flattens and brings us out of the forest onto grassy slopes, where it turns slightly to the left and joins the forest road. Along the road we walk only a short time, then we arrive at the next signposts.
Here the signs for Velika planina point straight along the road, but we do not follow them and instead head slightly right onto a much more pleasant footpath, marked with red arrows. The path ahead moderately ascends across the expansive pastures of the Velika planina plateau. After approximately 15 minutes of walking from the point where we left the road, we arrive at Dovja raven, where a few shepherd huts stand.
From here, where a somewhat longer path along the road also joins us from the left, we continue in the direction of Velika planina. The path ahead continues almost horizontally for some time, then temporarily descends slightly. A somewhat longer gentle ascent follows, and the increasingly scenic path brings us near the chapel of Marija Snežna, which we notice on the left side and to which only a short ascent remains.
From the chapel we descend to the cross, located by the nearby larger livestock watering place, and from there we continue straight uphill along the clearly visible path, which ascends above a few shepherd huts. Above the huts a marked path from Mala planina also joins us from the left, but we continue right and ascend transversely to a smaller saddle between two peaks. From the saddle, to which a drag lift from Tiha dolina also leads, we continue right and ascend over a somewhat steeper slope (in winter a ski slope) to a smaller pass. Here we continue right and along an indistinct ridge in one minute of further walking ascend to the highest peak of Velika planina.

Discussion about the trip Za Ušivcem - Gradišče (Velika planina)

How beautiful photos adorn this route On Saturday, September 22, 2012, it was very different. For a while such fog that one would think they only built the chapel of Our Lady of Snow, for anything more they ran out of money ;-) Later it turned into a beautiful day. Safe steps to all. Greta

Does anyone have info on the condition of the road to the starting point?

A month ago the road was normally passable to the large parking lot, where there is more than enough space. So, no panic.

Please provide information on whether crocuses are already blooming on the pasture. Best regards.

Dejan68 will be. On Velika there aren't any yet, here and there. Let the rain soak this yellow grass to green it up and the contrasts will be even more pronounced.

Of course, everything dry and the road isn't bad either.
