Zadnja Trenta (Flori) - Zavetišče pod Špičkom

Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora over the Vršič pass we drive towards Bovec or vice versa, but only to the 49th hairpin turn of the Ruska cesta (near the village Trenta). Here we turn onto a side road in the direction of the source of the Soča River. The road after a short ascent quickly brings us to the parking lot in front of the Koča pri izviru Soče mountain hut, and we continue left over a bridge and follow the road to the parking lot at the end of the road (by the parking lot we notice signposts for Bavški Grintavec, waterfalls of Suhega potoka stream and Jalovec).

Path description:
From the parking lot, we take the right footpath in the direction of Jalovec and Zavetišče pod Špičkom cottage (the left path leads to Bavški Grintavec). The path, from which a nice view opens up at the beginning on the already mentioned Bavški Grintavec, quickly passes into a dense forest, where it starts to ascend steeply. The steep path, which almost the entire time runs through the forest, brings us after approximately an hour and a half of walking to a junction, where we continue on the left path in the direction of Zavetišče pod Špičkom cottage (right: Jalovec, Mali kot and Jalovška škrbina, both paths are marked). The path ahead slightly flattens for some time, then starts to ascend steeply again, this time through occasionally thinner forest. Higher up, the forest becomes even sparser and nice views start to open up from the path on the surrounding peaks. A little further on, we reach a less noticeable junction, where a marked but little-trodden path to Bavški Grintavec branches off to the left.
We continue straight in the direction of Zavetišče pod Špičkom cottage on the path which passes into a belt of dwarf pines. Further on, we ascend through the dwarf pines for some time, then join the path from Vršič pass.
We continue straight in the direction of Zavetišče pod Špičkom cottage on the path which passes into the world of scree fields. The path, from which beautiful views open up on the peaks above Zgornje Posočje, brings us higher to a small junction, where the path to Jalovec branches off to the right. We continue straight and along the path, where we notice some interesting inscriptions (verses), arrive at Zavetišče pod Špičkom cottage in a few minutes.
