Zadnjica - Dolkova špica

Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora, drive over Vršič Pass towards Bovec or vice versa, but only to the 50th hairpin turn of the Vršič or Russian Road (near the village of Trenta). Here, turn onto the side road, along which after a few hundred meters park at the parking lot by the road.

Path description:
From the parking lot, continue along the road, which takes us past a few houses, mainly weekend cottages, in about 15 minutes to the place where the road splits into two parts (there used to be a parking lot at the junction, but parking is now prohibited).
From the old parking lot, head onto the left road towards Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih (the right road leads towards Prehodavci and Dolič). After another 15 minutes of walking, the road brings us to the lower station of the cargo cableway, where it ends.
Continue the ascent on the marked footpath, a mule track that moderately ascends through the forest. The path, which ascends above the valley of Beli potok, quickly brings us to very steep slopes (danger of falling rocks), across which a wide path runs. The path further crosses the gully Veliki Presek, after which we reach a short exposed ledge, which we cross with the aid of a fixed cable. Further on, the path returns to the forest, where it moderately ascends in numerous switchbacks. A little further, the path brings us under a small overhang, where we can observe numerous sticks that hikers place so that the rock does not collapse into the valley (the sticks are placed more for fun than seriously). The path further crosses a few smaller gullies, then takes us past a chapel to a larger gully. With some caution (easy) we cross the mentioned gully, after which we ascend to a pleasant rest area (two benches by the path) in a few minutes of further walking. Further on, we cross another larger gully (possibility of snowfield in early summer), then the path returns to the forest. Higher up, the forest becomes sparser, the path somewhat steeper and increasingly scenic.
The path, which continues ascending along the old mule track, then takes us past two more benches into the dwarf pine belt, after which we enter a more rocky terrain. Further, we ascend over smaller screes along an increasingly scenic path that higher up brings us to a pleasant spring (source).
Just a few dozen steps above the mentioned spring, we arrive at an unmarked junction, where an unmarked path branches right towards Spodnje Kriško jezero, which is two minutes' walk away; we continue slightly left along the still wide alpine path. The path further leads us past smaller ruins, which we follow all the way to a marked junction, where the path from the Vrata valley joins from the right. We continue left and after two minutes of further walking arrive at Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih.
From the hut, continue past the upper station of the cargo cableway along the marked path, which in two minutes of slight descent brings us to a marked junction, where we continue slightly right towards Križ and Škrlatica (left Razor and Planja). Further, we moderately ascend across the vast Kriške pode along a path that takes us past a spring and numerous sinks to a less noticeable junction (there is a small cairn at the junction). Continue left (straight Zgornje Kriško jezero 5 minutes) along the marked path, which for a short time ascends more steeply, then turns right, where it crosses a small scree.
Continue along the path that higher up crosses the steep slopes of Kriški rob. When the path at the end of crossing Kriški rob brings us to the ridge, our view is drawn to the 2382 m high Šplevta (mountain in the shape of an Indian). Further, the path steeply ascends through rugged rocky terrain (danger of slipping) and higher up brings us to Bovška vratica.
Here, continue straight down (right Križ 10 minutes) along a well-trodden path that after a short descent brings us to Vrh Kriške stene (2289 m), from where the climbing path from the Krnica valley joins from the left. Continue towards Škrlatica and the Vrata valley along a path that further leads through the world of poljes. The relatively level path soon splits into two parts, and we continue on the left towards Škrlatica.
Continue along the path that crosses the slopes below the walls of the lesser-known peak Gubno; on this section, the path runs without major elevation changes. When we reach the slopes of Dovški Gamsovec, we begin to ascend laterally through scree; when we reach the slopes of Dolkova špica, we begin to steeply ascend towards Rdeča škrbina, the saddle that separates Rogljica and Dolkova špica.
From Rdeča škrbina, head right towards Dolkova špica (straight down leads the marked path to Zadnji Dolek, from where the path continues towards Škrlatica or to the Bivak na Rušju) along a path that becomes technically more demanding, leading along the northwest ridge of Dolkova špica.
The difficult sections on the ridge are not secured, but are routed through natural passages so that there are no serious difficulties, and the summit is reached after about 15 minutes of walking from Rdeča škrbina.
