Zagreb (Šestine) - Sljeme (via Kraljičin zdenac on HPD path)

Access to starting point:
The best way to reach Zagreb is from the south at the Buzin junction entrance (here the road goes south to Velika Gorica and the airport). When you approach the shopping center, turn right (traffic light), then at the roundabout towards Zagreb-center (north). You will arrive at Marina Držića Street along which you go straight ahead. There will be a bus stop along the way. After the railway underpass, at the traffic lights go slightly left (this street has an avenue), but at the next intersection right (this is now Bauerova Street). Continue straight until you reach Vlaška Street.
Now turn left (west) and simply follow Vlaška Street, which turns into the dual carriageway Medveščak. Here you will spot the first arrows with Šestine markings.
The road to Šestine gently ascends. When the road reaches the highest point and begins to descend, go right and after a minute you will arrive at the large parking lot of the Lagvić restaurant. Park here or nearby.

Path description:
From the parking lot we go uphill past the Lagvić restaurant. A minute after the restaurant we spot a wooden shelter. Here our path branches off the asphalt and goes slightly downhill then flat through the forest for a while. All the time we are above the Kraljevec stream. Our path goes deeper and deeper into the stream gorge. After crossing the bridge our path starts ascending more steeply, aided by steps and railing. When we exit the gorge the path flattens again, the stream is on the left, and we are back near the road. The flat path brings us after the flat section to the rest area at the Kraljičin zdenac pond, where we can rest and refresh.
After Kraljičin zdenac we reach a junction where a path to the former Brestovac sanatorium branches right. We continue right (straight to Mrcina) and begin a rather steep ascent. After the steep climb we reach a junction where we join trail no. 52 (this trail has two names: HPD trail and also Elvirina trail). At the junction near the spring, straight ahead (eastward) goes the trail to Brestovac sanatorium, downhill is the spring, we go left uphill.
The trail steeply ascends after the junction, then flattens and goes through sparse forest where views of Zagreb below open up at some spots. We reach a wider cart track, the path remains flat but only until we first cross the asphalt road. Then the path steeply rises to the next road crossing. After this crossing trail 52 ends and we arrive at trail 15 which takes us past the upper station of the Sljeme cable car (no longer in use) to the road below the summit. We go simply uphill on paved concrete to the large TV transmitter at the top.
This trail is suitable if you want to avoid the ascent via Mrcina.
