Zalog - Storžič (via Planina Javornik and through southwest groove)

Access to starting point:
From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Kranj west and follow the road ahead in the direction of Golnik. Soon after the village Tenetiše, we will notice signs for village Goriče, which point us to the right on a local road. Only a little further, we come to the next crossroad, where we continue right in the direction of village Trstenik and Preddvor. And this road as well we don't follow long, because already after few meters, we will notice the sign with the caption Zalog, which points us left on an ascending road which we then follow to the mentioned village. In the middle of the village, a little before the church, we will notice a road which from the main road turns to the right. We go on this road, by which we soon notice blazes. We follow this road ahead for approximately 1 km, and then we park on one of the parking lots by the road.

Path description:
From the starting point, we continue on the road by which we've parked, and further it is becoming worse and higher brings us to NOB monument, where we leave the road and we continue the ascent right on an ascending cart track. At the spot, where the cart track on which we continue an ascent turns to the left, we will on the right side notice a footpath which starts ascending steeper through the forest (beginning isn't marked).
The path by which we notice rare blazes, then past a smaller chapel brings us to the spot, where the path from the village Povlje joins, and few steps ahead it splits into two parts. We continue right in the direction of Velika Poljana (straight Mala Poljana), where after few steps we get to panoramic hill, on which there is a pleasant bench.
From the viewpoint, we continue on the path which ascends at first slightly towards the right, after that towards the left and already after few steps goes into the forest, where starts ascending steeply. The path soon passes on a wide vegetated ridge, where it then continues for quite some time.
A relatively steep path, which is higher turning a little towards the right, eventually brings us to a wide cart track, where we join the path Dolenčeva pot from Povlje.
We continue straight on an ascending cart track which past »snack bar« brings us to the spot, where from the cart track, marked footpath branches off to the left. We can continue the ascent on the mentioned footpath which ascends on grassy slopes, or on a cart track which is ascending by the edge of the forest. Both paths higher join and without problems bring us to the cottage on Velika Poljana.
From the cottage, we continue right (left cottage Koča Grebenc, straight Mala Poljana and Storžič - path over Psica and also the path below Psica and forward on southwestern groove), where without large changes we cross pastures of Velika Poljana. Pastures we quickly leave and the path brings us into the forest, through which continues to cross occasionally quite steep and mainly in wet for slipping dangerous slopes. After approximately 30 minutes of walking from Velika Poljana, from where we walk on the path with some shorter ascents and descents, we get to the cottage Krničarjeva koča on the mountain pasture Planina Javornik, from where a nice view opens up on slopes of the nearby Storžič.
Few strides before the cottage from the right joins also the direct path from Povlje, and we go past the cottage and we continue in the direction of Storžič. A short time we cross the slopes towards the right, and then we get to southwestern groove, where we join the path, from Bašelj or Laško.
We again continue in the direction of Storžič and we start ascending on the mentioned groove. Higher from the left joins the path which leads below the slopes of Psica.
From the mentioned crossing, we continue right (left Velika Poljana, mountain hut Dom pod Storžičem...) and we are still ascending on quite steep southwestern groove of Storžič. On the mentioned groove, from which increasingly beautiful views opening up towards Gorenjska, we are ascending for a good hour, and then the path turns a little to the right and brings us on the southwestern ridge of Storžič, where from the right side joins an unmarked path which leads on the mentioned ridge.
We continue on the ridge and marked path then turns slightly to the right and soon join also other paths from Dom pod Storžičem and Kališče. From here to the top, which we already see in front of us, then only a short ascent follows by wonderful views.
Zalog - Velika Poljana 2:00 minutes, Velika Poljana - Planina Javornik 30 minutes, Planina Javornik - Storžič 2:00.
