Zaplana (Prezid) - Ulovka

Access to starting point:
A) We leave the Ljubljana–Koper motorway at the Vrhnika exit, then continue driving on the old road towards Logatec. At the end of Vrhniški klanec, we continue right in the direction of Zaplana, and when we already arrive at Zaplana, at the crossroads we continue left in the direction of Rovte (slightly right: Zaplana church of St. Urh and Martin, Ulovka and Zavetišče na Planini nad Vrhniko). At the end of the hamlet Prezid on Zaplana, we will notice on the left side a smaller parking lot, where we park.
B) From the Ljubljana–Koper motorway we head to the Logatec exit and then continue driving to Logatec. From the roundabout, where we reach the old Vrhnika–Postojna road, we continue right (direction Vrhnika) and continue driving on the old road towards Vrhnika, but we drive along it only a few hundred metres, then turn left onto the road in the direction of Rovte and Žiri. We continue driving on a gradually more and more winding road to the crossroads, where the road towards Zaplana branches off to the right. From the spot where we leave the main road towards Žiri, we drive a little less than 2 km, then arrive at the sign which marks the beginning of the hamlet Zaplana–Prezid. We park on a smaller parking lot before the mentioned sign.
C) First we drive to Škofja Loka, then continue driving towards Gorenja vas and Žiri. From Žiri we continue driving on a somewhat more winding road towards Rovte and Logatec. Still before Logatec we will come to a crossroads, where the road towards Zaplana branches off to the left. From the spot where we leave the main road towards Žiri, we drive a little less than 2 km, then arrive at the sign which marks the beginning of the hamlet Zaplana–Prezid. We park on a smaller parking lot before the mentioned sign.

Path description:
From the starting point we head onto a narrower asphalt road which ascends towards three houses. Only a little after the first house we leave the road because the blazes direct us right onto the marked path, which initially runs along an old cart track. Further on, the path has a few junctions, but if we carefully follow the blazes there are no major orientation problems. Somewhat further we arrive at a meadow where the trail completely disappears. We continue in approximately the same direction and then on the other side of the meadow step onto a wide cart track. A short descent follows, then the cart track splits into two parts. We continue left and after a few metres right and then again left (following the blazes), thus continuing in the same direction as before. Only a few dozen steps further the forest ends, and we continue on the path which runs along the edge of the forest. Further on, the path temporarily ascends steeply, then moderately ascends with nice views on the surrounding hills and Logatec. After a few minutes the path completely flattens and brings us to an old Italian bunker from the time of the Rapallo border. At the bunker the path disappears again, and we continue straight uphill across the meadow. When we reach the edge of the forest we look for a large blaze marking the continuation of the marked path. For a short time we ascend along the pasture fence, then cross onto an indistinct ridge where we cross a more trodden trail. We continue on a somewhat more overgrown but traceable trail which ascends to the road at the solitary house. We bypass the house on the right side and past the garage descend to the asphalt road.
We follow the road to the right, and descend along it to a smaller crossroads where we continue straight onto the footpath (path left leads to the Majer homestead, right descends in a few steps to the road which leads from Zaplana (Jerinov grič) to the church on Zaplana and the tower on Planina nad Vrhniko, which latter road we join higher up), which ascends to the ridge of Križev grič. The path soon flattens, then behind the summit of Križev grič descends to the asphalt road which leads to the church on Zaplana, Ulovka and the tower on Planina nad Vrhniko. Along the road we walk past the chapel to a smaller crossroads where the road splits into two parts.
We continue along the right road (slightly left: church of St. Urh and Martin (5 minutes)), which soon brings us to a marked junction where the path from the previously mentioned church joins from the left, to the right a path branches off towards Lintvern.
We continue straight on the subsequent macadam road, which for some time continues without major elevation changes, then gradually begins to descend. Only a few steps before we arrive at the marked crossroads where to the right branches the road towards the tower at Zavetišče na Planini nad Vrhniko, we continue sharply left onto the marked footpath in the direction of the Ulovka summit (at the place where we leave the road there is a signpost).
We continue the path through the forest along a moderately steep trail, along which in less than 15 minutes of further walking we arrive from the forest to the summit of Ulovka, from where a nice view opens up.
