Access to starting point:
We drive to Železniki, where at the crossroads for Kropa, Dražgoše and Rudno we park on the arranged parking lot.
Path description:
From the starting point, we continue on a sidewalk and walk in the direction of Škofja Loka, immediately after crossing the stream Češnjica we go left on a side road. On the side road we walk some 10 steps, then we go right between two houses, where the footpath begins which ascends above Železniki. At first, we ascend diagonally with views of Železniki, then the path passes into the forest and turns more to the right. Further on follow numerous junctions, we continue straight or slightly right, and we also have to be careful because on certain paths the route of a downhill cycling path runs. Higher, we stick to the paths which lead towards the ridge, then on the ridge we reach the peak of Štalce (642 m), from which some descent follows. When the path stops descending, from the left there also joins the path which bypasses the peak of Štalce, and we follow the footpath which continues on or by the ridge. Higher, we step out of the forest, across hayfields we ascend on a well-visible cart track which before the settlement Kališe changes into a macadam road.
We ascend on the road to a crossroads, where the road sign for Dražgoše points left, and we continue right upwards and further ascend diagonally towards the right (the path which leads from the settlement straight upwards leads through private land and is not passable). The settlement soon ends, the road becomes macadam and when it passes into the forest, from the right there also joins the path from the settlement Selca.
Here we go twice left, then right on a beaten footpath which starts to ascend steeply. After a few minutes of steep ascent we step out of the forest, where the path flattens, and to the church of the Holy Cross, which we already see in front of us, only a good minute of walking separates us.
From the church we continue on a panoramic ridge, then we pass into the forest where we continue on a beaten footpath, on which we quickly arrive at an asphalt road. For a short time we continue on the asphalt road, when the road turns left we continue straight on a footpath which continues through the forest. Further on we cross the slopes of Rožnik, where the path leads us across hayfields, when we return to the forest the path passes onto the ridge. A little further we leave the forest and across a meadow we walk to the highest point of Sleme or Površnica.
