Access to starting point:
Leave the A1 motorway at the Split exit, then proceed along the expressway following the signs for Split ferry terminal. Buy tickets there for Vis island. After a 2.5-hour ferry ride, we arrive in the town of Vis, following signs for Komiža. The road leads to an intersection above the town of Vis, where we continue sharply left towards Rukavac. The road climbs transversely to a saddle with a cross. Then the road gently descends through a few hairpin bends into Plisko Polje. We continue to the locality of Podšpilje, turning right towards Titova Špilja, Hum and Žena glava. At the next intersection, where the left turn goes to Hum and straight ahead to Žena Glava, the described trail begins. Park somewhere nearby along the road.
Path description:
From the intersection, we head straight into the village of Žena Glava. After a few minutes, we reach the end of the village, where we carefully follow the markers leading right between the houses. Soon we reach a trail that gently ascends through an overgrown meadow between a wire and stone fence. Then the path climbs somewhat steeper in short zigzags. The path reaches a small plateau, where it levels out. We walk for about half an hour along a dry stone wall through a belt of small groves, otherwise enjoying views most of the time. We arrive at a junction where a path from Komiža via Sveti Mihovil joins from the right (this is on the saddle between Mali Hum and Orlovica along the main Vis - Komiža road). We continue straight towards Hum and Titova špilja. After about 10 minutes of walking, first still along the dry stone wall which we then leave, we reach another junction, turning left towards Titova špilja. Straight to Hum or Sveti Duh. After 5 minutes of steep descent, we spot Titova špilja on the left. To the second cave, another 3 minutes ahead along the paved path.
Description and photos refer to the condition in August 2023.
