Description of mountain hut:Becherhaus (Rifugio Bicchiere; also known in Italy as Rifugio Gino Biasi) is one of the highest-lying mountain huts in the Eastern Alps. It is located on the panoramic Becherfelsen ridge end, which drops south from the eastern subpeak of Wilder Freiger, Signalgipfel, and rises imposingly above the vast Übeltalferner glacier. The original structure of the present hut was built as early as 1894 under the name Kaiserin-Elizabeth-Schutzhaus.
Becherhaus, managed by the Italian Alpine Club, together with the nearby Austrian Müller Hütte forms a pair of high-alpine huts offering relatively convenient access to the major summits of the central Hochstubai group, especially Wilder Freiger (3,418 m), Sonklarspitze (3,467 m), and Botzer (3,250 m); the huts are also starting points for demanding yet appealing eastern ascents to Wilder Pfaff (3,456 m) and Zuckerhütl (3,507 m), the highest peak of the Stubai Alps.
The hut is not easily accessible; the easiest and fastest approach is from the Italian Ridnauntal valley, though it is still long and indirect. From Austria, the most direct route crosses just below the summit of Wilder Freiger; thus, most visitors reaching the hut from Austria are also climbers heading for the famous Wilder Freiger.
