Description of mountain:
Bijele and Samarske stijene form a strict nature reserve located in the central part of Velika Kapela in Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Karlovac Counties. The reserve was established on 24 January 1985 over an area of 1,175 hectares.
The terrain features numerous bizarre limestone formations. Fir, spruce, and beech forests grow on the rocky blocks.
The highest peak of Samarske stijene reaches 1,302 m, while Bijele stijene to the west culminate at 1,335 m. In 1952, mountaineers from PDS "Velebit" in Zagreb built the "Ratkovo sklonište" shelter.
The reserve hosts diverse karst phenomena.
Flora includes species such as runolist, srčanik, and dragušac. Preserved habitats are home to bears, weasels, dormice, and martens.
