Description of mountain:
The ruins of Gromberg Castle are located above the village of Kočna pri Slovenski Bistrici.
The castle was built in the 10th century and first mentioned in 1164.
The ruins are among the first stone-built and well-fortified feudal strongholds in the region.
Its location provided excellent control over the approach of potential enemies across the Dravsko polje plain.
It successfully withstood Turkish attacks. After attacks by rebellious peasants in the 17th century, however, it was no longer rebuilt.
The famous castle inspired Anton Ingolič to use it as the setting for his novels Pradedje and Gorele so grmade.
Today, only a few walls remain of the old upper Gromberg Castle.
