Description of lake:
Danau Segara Anak, or Lake Segara Anak, translates to "Child of the Sea." It got its name from its beautiful blue-green and occasionally turquoise color. The water is not drinkable, but swimming in the lake is possible.
The lake is located below the summit of Gunung Rinjani (3,726 m) and fills the crater left by a volcanic explosion in 1257 AD. The explosion is rated at level 7 (Volcanic Explosivity Index) and is the strongest eruption in the last 2,000 years or more. The explosion destroyed Mount Samalas, whose "remains" are now called Rinjani.
