Description of lake:
Danau Segara Anak or lake Segara Anak in translation means "Child of the sea". The name was given because of its blue & turquoise color that resembles the sea's. The water is not potable, but it is safe to swim in it.
The lake is located in the huge caldera of the Mt. Rinjani mountain. The caldera is a remnant of a volcanic explosion in 1257 A.D. that was probably of the magnitude 7 on volcanic explositivity index (it is the biggest volcanic explosion in the past 2000 years if not more). The mountain before the explosion is / was named Mt. Samalas.
