Finsteltaler Schartenkopf

Description of mountain:
(Finsteltaler) Schartenkopf is a peak in the range above Kühtai. From the Finstertal saddle—the easiest access point—it appears quite indistinct, but it looks more imposing from the surroundings of the Finstertal reservoir, rising above it like a steep sentinel.
Although the path to it is only partly marked and the approach requires crossing a challenging scree slope, the short ascent to Schartenkopf from the Finstertal saddle is not overly difficult. The summit offers a magnificent view of the highest peaks in this part of the range—Sulzkogel and Zwölferkogel—the Finstertal lake deep below us, and the main body of the Stubai Alps to the south.
