Gran Paradiso

Description of mountain:
Gran Paradiso is, at 4,061 meters, the highest mountain lying entirely on Italian territory. A statue of the Virgin Mary stands at the summit, offering a magnificent view of numerous famous Alpine peaks such as Mont Blanc (4,805 m) – the highest peak of France and the Alps, Weisshorn (4,505 m), Matterhorn (4,478 m), Dom (4,545 m) – the highest mountain entirely on Swiss territory, Dufourspitze (4,634 m) – the highest peak of Switzerland. The mountain is popular as the ascent is not technically demanding, making Gran Paradiso a frequent first four-thousander for many climbers.
