Description of mountain:
SEVEN RILA LAKES Jezerski vrh 2550 m (470 vm) 3.30 h
Lake names: Oko, Solza, Ledvica, Dvojček, Tretja, Ribje jezero and Spodnje jezero.
The starting point is the Rila Lakes mountain hut, most easily reached by the Pionerska chairlift from Panichishte. It operates Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 16:30 (closed Monday mornings for maintenance) and costs €16 for a return trip in 2026.
From the hut it is best to continue on the right-hand path straight up the hill. The trail is steep at first and follows stone steps. In about 20 minutes we gain nearly 200 m, then walk along the edge of the slope where there is a safety railing. To the left opens a view of the lower lakes and the Sedmera jezera hut. We then descend slightly and at the junction turn right. Soon we reach the large lake – Ledvica. We circle it on the left side and arrive at the saddle. From here we climb about 100 m to the next lake, Solza; the path then leads on to a ridge-like outcrop – Jezerski vrh. To the right we gain a view of the highest lakelet – Oko. From the summit we have an excellent view of all seven lakes. In the valley we also see the double lake, above which rises the bold rock tooth Kajduta. We descend from the summit back along the same route to the saddle, then turn right downhill toward the Sedmera jezera hut. We first descend to the Double Lake; at the next lake there are two options. If we turn left (and follow the right shore) we avoid the hut and have less ascent back to the start. The original route leads right around the edge and downhill past the lake to near the Rila Lakes hut. From there another 40 minutes of walking and some ascent remain. We follow the path, which is initially gentle, then climbs upward and right to the saddle. From the saddle we descend to the Rila Lakes hut, with a short final climb at the end of the tour.
