Description of mountain:
Kleiner Solstein is the highest peak of the famous Nordkette ridge, which blocks views from the valley to the central part of the Karwendel range and forms the characteristic panorama of Innsbruck and its surroundings.
Despite its name (Kleiner = smaller), Kleiner Solstein towers almost 100 meters above its neighbor Großer Solstein—the reason for this apparent discrepancy likely lies in the fact that the sharper Kleiner Solstein is much less broad and spacious than its lower neighbor, and the approach to it is considerably more demanding.
Until recently, Kleiner Solstein was considered a fairly difficult mountain to reach, but the path has been marked and secured at key points. This has made the highest summit of this well-known ridge accessible to a wider audience, though the ascent still retains the characteristics of a demanding unmarked route. The peak offers fine views into the heart of the scenic Karwendel, the Inn Valley, and the Stubai and Ötztal Alps to the south.
