Description of mountain:
The Church of St. Pavel extends west of the village of Ročinj on a hill at 403 meters elevation. It was built in Gothic style in the late Middle Ages but has been renovated or expanded several times over the centuries. The rhomboid-star vaulted chancel dates to the last quarter of the 15th century, while the bell tower was likely added later. During World War I, the church was largely destroyed by shelling, including its three bells. Locals from Ročinj participated in the 1930s reconstruction. They quarried the ridge beam for the roof in the village, requiring 27 men to transport it to the church. Three new bells weighing 396, 233, and 162 kilograms were cast in January 1933 by the De Poli foundry in Vittorio Veneto. They were brought to Ročinj in 1936 and baptized there, with sponsors Justina Dugar, Angela Kamenšček, and Jožef Malnič from the village. Masses were held in January for the feast of St. Paul's conversion, on Easter Monday, Whitsun Monday, and the third day of Holy Cross week.
The church is now best known for its stone Calvary monument featuring Jesus, two thieves, and beneath the cross, Mary the mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. In 1588, the Ročinj parish bought the "na Krasu" alpine pasture near Drežnica from the Čedajska Cottis family, receiving 15 pounds of cheese in annual rent. Sold in 1709, tradition holds that the proceeds funded the monument. On the northern approach via "Preval," a statue of St. Paul stands by the church. Along the path from the "Zdenc" area in Ročinj, remains of three chapels are visible, marked on late 18th-century military maps. A footpath links the Church of St. Pavel to the nearby Church of St. Peter, southwest above Ajba village.
