34th National Competition Mladina in gore in Šenčur

At the 34th national competition Mladina in gore, on Saturday, January 20, 2024, in Šenčur, 18 four-member primary school teams will theoretically and practically compete in mountaineering knowledge. This year, for the eighth time, the competition for secondary school students with 14 two-member teams will take place simultaneously. The official start of one of the most important competitions for popularizing mountaineering and respectful attitude towards nature will be at 10:00, the final with a quiz and a mystery guest at 14:30. Mladina in gore, which is both a knowledge competition and a sports competition, as mountaineering equally combines both elements, is intended for primary school students from 6th to 9th grade, and this year the similar challenge for secondary school students will be held for the eighth time. One of the most important competitions for popularizing mountaineering and respectful attitude towards nature is also an opportunity for young mountaineers from all over Slovenia to socialize and acquire mountaineering knowledge for safer and more independent visits to the mountains.
18 best primary school teams from all over Slovenia qualified for the national competition, where they will compete in mountaineering knowledge and knowledge of additional material on the 70th anniversary of the ascent of Everest. The regional competition on November 18, 2023, in Račah, Pivka, and Tržič was attended by 53 teams with four students each from 6th to 9th grade, and the most successful ones opened the doors to the 34th national competition Mladina in gore, which will be held on January 20 in Šenčur, from where the winning team of the 33rd national competition Mladina in gore comes. The 8th MIG competition for secondary school students will also feature 14 secondary school teams with two competitors each. Within the competition, an art contest titled Let nature be preserved for future generations is also organized.
The best primary school teams will be rewarded with free use of the Mlačca campsite area, practical prizes and a weekend package in a mountain hut, secondary school teams with a free student camp and practical prizes, all the best with trophies and medals, and the remaining teams will receive practical prizes. The organizers of the 34th national competition Mladina in gore are: Alpine Association of Slovenia, Youth Commission of PZS, Mountaineering Association Kranj, Primary School Šenčur, and Institute for Sport RS Planica.

10.35-11.20 writing tests and mentors' meeting
11.30-12.30 lunch
12.30-14.15 practical part for SŠ teams that qualify for the final, guided tour of the tunnels under old Kranj and socializing
14.30-16.00 final of the OŠ competition (during breaks mystery guest, results of the art contest and award ceremony for SŠ)
16.00-16.30 conclusion with award ceremony
