8th Hiking Days

Hiking in various forms (excursionism, mountaineering) was one of the first incentives for tourist visits to Bohinj. The first visitors walked around the lake and admired the beauties of the Bohinj glacial valleys and gazed at the wreath of mountains. In Bohinj, more than twenty years before the establishment of the Slovenian Alpine Association, the first mountaineering club on Slovenian territory already existed (Triglav Friends), which also built the first mountain hut in the Julian Alps. And finally, Bohinj records the first successful ascent of Triglav from 1776. Four brave men then made the first approach to Triglav – the mountain of gods, today the symbol of the Slovenes.

These are just some highlights from the rich mountaineering history of Bohinj. The development of tourism has been, is, and will be connected with hiking in Bohinj. It is no wonder, therefore, that we have decided to organize Hiking Days in Bohinj as part of the Slovenian project Slovenia Walks – hiking days.

With the organization of Hiking Days in Bohinj, we aim to utilize the natural and other assets of Bohinj for tourism development, shape a holistic tourist product, direct promotion to specific target groups, and ultimately extend the tourist season in Bohinj.

In the period from 11.9. to 11.10. 2015, a multitude of events related to hiking in one way or another will take place in Bohinj. Numerous themed excursions, workshops, sports competitions are certainly reasons to visit Bohinj in the wonderful autumn period.
