Yesterday afternoon an accident occurred in Turski Gully above Okrešelj in which a 52-year-old mountaineer from Celje died.
The accident happened when the mountaineer was descending through Turski Gully; despite appropriate equipment, he slipped and slid down the slope for approximately 400 m. Despite the quick assistance of mountain rescuers, he died at the scene due to severe injuries.
We advise all mountaineers heading into the mountains where there is still snow to take with you all the equipment necessary for safe walking in snowy conditions.
However, the equipment itself is not omnipotent; proper use of crampons and ice axe as well as other equipment is also necessary for safe walking in snowy conditions.
