On Kanin, around 11 a.m., an extreme skier died after falling into one of the local abysses outside the prepared slopes.
Immediately after the report of the accident, mountain rescuers from Bovec rushed to help and found him at a depth of 20 metres in an otherwise 80-metre abyss. The duty doctor could only confirm death. As reported by RTV Slovenija, it was a 38-year-old man from Bohinjska Bistrica.
Rescuers also recovered the body of a 35-year-old skier from Nova Gorica today, who fell into the same abyss in January this year but fortunately survived.
Similar accidents have occurred on Kanin in previous years, where skiers at Slovenia's highest ski resort fell into karst abysses due to ignoring warning signs. In the Bovec area, four people have died this year due to various sports activities.
