Anniversary of the death of an exceptional alpinist
10.11.2010
Today marks one year since the death of a top alpinist, above all an exceptional human being.
Tomaž Humar was found dead on November 14 on Langtang Lirung, with November 10 accepted as the date of death. In his career, Humar completed over 1500 ascents, 70 of which were first ascents at home and around the world. For his exceptional achievements, he was awarded in numerous fields. Among others, he received:
* golden ice axe for the ascent of Ama Dablam
* Bloudek Award
* Honorary Badge of the Republic of Slovenia
* encian for lifetime achievement (2000, Trento, Italy), which was also received by legends Reinhold Messner and Edmond Hillary
* nomination for the golden ice axe for Aconcaguo
After an unpleasant experience in 2005 on Nanga Parbat (a sensational rescue operation took place at that time), he began to climb more "quietly". His ascents and achievements were no longer media sensations, although in 2006, for example, he climbed the south face to the summit of Annapurna. Even his last ascent was not known to the public, not even to his close friends.
