Award-Winning Films of the 16th Mountain Film Festival on View Again in Ljubljana.
The award-winning films of the Mountain Film Festival will be on view again at the beginning of March in Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana. The film evening on 3 March will feature the mountaineering film Wall of Shadows, winner of last year's festival, followed by this year's award-winning climbing duo Swiss Paradise and Theory of Falling; on 4 March, stunning documentaries on mountain nature Snow Leopards and Friends and Big Bend: American Wilderness will open, with the winning film of this year's festival, Across Antarctica, providing the highlight of the evening.
The Mountain Film Festival returns to Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana, where on Thursday, 3 March 2022, at 18:00, the multiple award-winning mountaineering film Wall of Shadows by Polish director Eliza Kubarska, recipient of the main Domžale City Award at last year's festival—a moving story of a Sherpa family joining an expedition to the virgin east wall of Kumbhakarna, the purest expression of mountain culture—will be shown again. At 20:00, climbing enthusiasts will be satisfied, as the two award-winning climbing films of this year, Swiss Paradise (Guillaume Broust, France), which takes us to the pantheon of the hardest long sport routes in the most prestigious walls, where former competitor Cedric Lachat and friends test their vertical instinct on their fingertips with a good dose of climbing humour, and Theory of Falling (Alastair Lee, Great Britain) starring Franco Cookson, tackling an unimaginably dangerous route where protection virtually does not exist and the moves are so difficult that some have never been completed before, will be screened on the big screen.
Fans of top films about nature and animals will delight in the Friday, 4 March projections. At 18:00, the Chinese-Austrian documentary Snow Leopards and Friends (Xi Zhinong, Zi Ding, Da Jie, Qu Peng), revealing the secret life of the snow leopard in Tibet, filmed by talented filmmakers from the nearby village—outstandingly distinguished by exceptional photography, warmth, and love—and Big Bend: American Wilderness (John Murray, USA), a film about the magical landscape on the US-Mexican border where, despite vast deserts, some of North America's most fascinating animals thrive in untouched wilderness, will be shown again. The highlight of Friday evening will be the winner of the 16th Mountain Film Festival—the film Across Antarctica by American director Tasha Van Zandt, a wonderful film about the exceptional first crossing of Antarctica in 1989 by dog sled and the incredible story of explorer Will Steger, inspiring with its powerful message: to save our planet, we must cooperate, even from different countries. Nothing is impossible!
