Bouldering - Slovenians in semi-finals

11.05.2013
Today, May 11, 2013, the fourth round of the IFSC 2013 Bouldering World Cup started at Log pri Brezovici at 10 a.m. 65 men entered the quite difficult qualifying routes, competing simultaneously in two groups, and in the afternoon the women competed, a total of 51. Of our eight representatives and five female representatives, they climbed into the semi-finals: Jernej Kruder, Klemen Bečan and Mina Markovič.

The organizer of the Bouldering World Cup event in Slovenia - Log 2013 is the Sport Climbing Commission of the Alpine Association of Slovenia within the International Federation of Sport Climbing IFSC, and the organizer is the Korenjak Sport Climbing Club.

Each competitor faced 5 qualifying routes, for which each had 5 minutes available. Excellent atmosphere and numerous spectators encouraged our and all other competitors to give their best on this year's freshly repainted wall. The best in qualifications were (sharing first place after qualifications) Frenchman Guillaume Glairon Mondet and Japanese Hori Tsukuru.

Into the semi-finals among the top 20, our Jernej Kruder with all five tops and Klemen Bečan with 4 tops qualified, unfortunately the other six did not make it to the semi-finalists. Domen Škofic achieved 3 tops, Urban Primožič, Gregor Vezonik and Jure Bečan 2 tops each, while Sergej Epih and Jure Raztresen achieved no tops.

Among the top 20 women, Mina Markovič also qualified, our best sport climber and winner of last year's Bouldering World Cup at Log. Mateja Hohkraut was close, just short of the semi-final.

At the last IFSC 2013 Bouldering World Cup in Austrian Kitzbühl, Mina Markovič achieved an excellent 5th place, Jernej Kruder 6th.

STATEMENTS:

Jernej Kruder was excellent in qualifications, climbing all five boulders: "Everything went according to plan, just as I wanted. I hope it goes just as well for me in tomorrow's semi-final." The boulders were very different, requiring competitors to tackle each in their own way.

Mina Markovič, who started excellently at the World Cup at Log and, like Jernej Kruder, climbed all five boulders. "Interesting problems were set, the first two a bit more technical, but I concentrated and climbed them well. Actually, after each boulder it was easier, as I got into it, disconnected everything around, and it went from boulder to boulder more easily. This is a good foundation for tomorrow."

Coach Roman Krajnik assessed our performances at the end of qualifications as follows: "We have 3 semi-finalists, all three climbed okay, with minor mistakes, but satisfactory for qualifications. We expect a lot from them in the semi-final, and I expect all three in the final as well. I'm a bit disappointed with the other guys, I expected at least 2 more semi-finalists. Domen Škofic unfortunately fell just short, the others made too many mistakes - they didn't reach the climbing they are capable of. With the girls, the younger ones paid the price of inexperience, but we are still satisfied, we will continue working and hope for better results at the next competitions. For the juniors, this was good training for the European Bouldering Championship, which will be on May 25 and 26, 2013, in Switzerland (Grindenwald)."
