By train to the Day of Slovenian Mountaineers at Janče
10.06.2025
The Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS) has been celebrating the Day of Slovenian Mountaineers for over four decades. On Saturday, 14 June, together with the Mountaineering Association Litija, which is marking 120 years this year, it is organising a full-day mountaineering event at the Mountain Hut at Janče, experiences for young mountaineers, families and adults, guided hiking and mountain biking trips, sport climbing, presentation of the work of path markers and mountain rescuers, and much more of interest.
The Day of Slovenian Mountaineers 2025 will be at the Mountain Hut at Janče (792 m), on the scenic dome-shaped Janški Hill above Litija. Young and adult mountaineers will be able to set off for Janče from various starting points, all reachable by train, namely at 8:00 from Litija, Jevnice and Laze, while mountain bikers will pedal to the event site at 9:00 from Šmartno pri Litiji. Participation in guided trips and workshops is free, the paths are easy and marked. The main event with a solemn procession of flag bearers from mountaineering associations will be at 12:30, followed by a mountaineering party with music and pleasant socializing among mountaineers from all over Slovenia and beyond its borders. The full programme is published on the PZS website.
At the mountain hut, there will also be a variety of experiences for mountaineers of all generations throughout the day - the mountaineering walk Discover Janče, always attractive climbing on the climbing tower, various workshops, demonstration of the work of path markers and mountain rescuers, and presentations of 120 years of PD Litija, 50 years of the European Long-Distance Path E6, and providers of Sadna cesta. The event will also feature the conclusion of the Zasavska planinska pot ima tri obraze competition and the announcement of the winner of the Naj planinska pot 2025 selection.
"This year's Day of Mountaineers has been planned more sustainably, so we recommend travel by train to the starting points, as the starting points of the guided hikes will be the railway stations Laze, Jevnice and Litija. This way we will disperse the starting points, while everyone can choose a path suited to their abilities and wishes," in the spirit of the long-term guideline of the Alpine Association of Slovenia Peš iz dolin do višin, which encourages visiting the mountains by public transport, invites PZS Vice-President Roman Ponebšek. The Vice-President of PD Litija also sheds light on why this year's main mountaineering event will be at Janče: "We are proud that the Mountaineering Association Litija is celebrating 120 years this year, as the Litija branch of the Slovenian Alpine Association was established as early as 1905. This very jubilee was the reason for us to co-organise the main gathering of all Slovenian mountaineers and invite them to Janče, where the popular mountain hut of our mountaineering association is located."
