Caution in the Mountains

5.02.2008
In recent days, heavy snowfall has occurred in the Julian Alps, with more than 1 m of snow falling. Due to the new snow, the avalanche danger has increased to level 4 on the 5-degree scale. The most snow fell in the western Julian Alps and the Lower Bohinj Mountains. On Kanin, the snow cover is 350 cm thick, on Vogel and Kredarica approximately 2 m. Increased avalanche danger also exists in the western and central Karawanks and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. On Pohorje, there were no heavier precipitations, so the avalanche danger is lowest there.
Due to the high avalanche danger, we advise against visiting the mountains in the coming days.
