On Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11 a.m., as part of the 3rd Stržišče Flower Day of Black Soil, there will be a ceremonial signing of the charter on Baška grapa joining the international Mountain Villages network in the Community Hall in Stržišče. The part of the Municipality of Tolmin was officially awarded the title Baška grapa - mountain village on December 10, 2024, in Innsbruck, and Baška grapa joins with the ceremony three Slovenian members of this prestigious international family, namely Jezersko, Luče, and Dovje-Mojstrana.
Members of the Mountain Villages network (Bergsteigerdörfer) strive for sustainable development, nature-friendly tourism, preservation of cultural landscape, and strengthening life in mountain communities. Network members implement sustainable development and the goals and protocols of the Alpine Convention in practice, including tourism based on experiencing and observing nature, with emphasis on hiking and activities that do not require large tourist infrastructure, mountain farming and forestry with local products and produce, nature and landscape protection, sustainable mobility, preserved and living character of mountain villages. The project is led by the Austrian Alpine Association (ÖAV) in collaboration with the alpine associations of South Tyrol (AVS), Germany (DAV), Italy (CAI), Switzerland (SAC), and Slovenia (PZS), where the national coordinator is the Alpine Association of Slovenia.
The project team carried out a series of activities between 2019 and 2025 that led to official inclusion in the network, including preparation of promotional materials, website, and content for social networks. An important step was also obtaining eleven local project partners. In 2025, it issued the brochure Baška grapa - pristine nature and warm-hearted people, which will be published in four languages and offers visitors useful guidelines for hiking and sightseeing of cultural and natural landmarks.
The cultural program will be shaped by: Manca Špik, Vocal Group Snežet, Kariške čečje, children's choir of OŠ Simona Kosa Podbrdo, and moderators Marjana Gerčman and Martina Kolenc Novak. This will be followed by refreshments and socializing with typical local dishes, presentation of local offerings at stalls, and music by the Damačica ensemble.
Visitors are recommended to use organized minibus transport from Hudajužna and Podbrdo railway stations. Arrival by train is encouraged.
The event organizer is the Municipality of Tolmin in collaboration with PD Podbrdo, KTT Association Baška Heritage, KS Stržišče, TD Podbrdo, and PD Bohinjska Bistrica.
You are cordially invited!
