Change of traffic regime on the road over Vršič

Due to the renovation of the retaining wall, change of traffic regime on the road over Vršič.
The route of the regional road R1-206 Kranjska Gora – Ruska cesta – Vršič, which runs over the highest Slovenian road pass Vršič (1,611 m), has 50 hairpin turns, of which 24 are on the Kranjska Gora side and 26 on the Trenta side. The sequence of hairpin turns is dynamic, so there are various retaining and supporting structures along the road. Due to its location in the mountainous world, the road is exposed to various weather influences throughout the year, threatened by rockfalls, torrents, windfalls, avalanches and landslides, all of which also affect the structures, including retaining and supporting constructions.
The Directorate of the RS for Infrastructure began the reconstruction of the retaining wall on the road to Vršič, R1-206, section 1043 Ruska cesta (Erika-Vršič) from km 5.946 to km 6.010 at the end of May this year, but they were temporarily suspended due to the tourist season. The contractor must complete the works before winter, which on our highest pass can arrive much earlier than in the valley.
The works were necessary due to the heavily damaged stone wall. The wall repair is in the final phase, but final works on the retaining wall and works on the carriageway are still needed, where the carriageway next to the retaining wall needs to be replaced to a depth of 70 cm. Since it will not be possible to ensure sufficient carriageway width for alternating one-way traffic due to maneuvering of construction machinery, the works will be carried out with a complete road closure.
Complete closure is planned from 16.9.2019 to 4.10.2019. During the complete closure, partial road closure is expected at night and on weekends.

From 16.9.2019 from 8.00 to 20.9.2019 until 15.00
From 23.9.2019 from 8.00 to 27.9.2019 until 15.00
From 30.9.2019 from 8.00 to 4.10.2019 until 16.00 – 3 days within the period complete closure due to asphalt paving, 2 days partial closure planned.
During the complete closure, a detour will be arranged for all vehicles in both directions via the Predel border crossing.
