Conditions in the mountains 6.11.2008

6.11.2008
In the past days, the weather in the mountains was variable with occasional precipitation, only yesterday during the day it was mostly sunny. Because it was relatively warm and little precipitation, some snow fell only on the highest peaks.
Currently in the high Julian Alps at 2500 m there is about 30 cm of snow, elsewhere less. Snow starts above 1900 m, on sunny slopes and in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and Karawanks even higher.
In the coming days, variable weather with occasional precipitation. Snow line between 2000 and 2200 m. Up to and including Saturday, 10 to 30 cm of snow can fall above this altitude.
Due to saturated ground, there is avalanche risk on steep slopes.
