Connecting event for promoting mountain biking
8.09.2021
The Commission for Touring Cycling of the Alpine Association of Slovenia (KTK PZS) will, in cooperation with Generali insurance company, on Saturday, September 11, for the third time organize a special touring cycling event: Take the Migimigi challenge! Cycle the Slovenian Touring Cycling Trail in one day! Under the guidance of PZS touring cycling guides, cyclists will set out on 41 trails of the 1850-kilometer circular route. Of course, each will ride only one stage, but together we will pool our strengths and the entire STKP will be covered. Registrations are limited in number and accepted until September 9 at 10 a.m. on www.migimigi.si/stkp1dan.
The Slovenian Touring Cycling Trail, a Slovenian specialty, with its 41 stages and 1850 kilometers leading through all major mountain groups, passes 112 checkpoints, including more than 50 mountain huts and numerous important alpine and tourist attractions. The entire trail accumulates more than 50 thousand elevation meters, the highest point of STKP is Poštarski dom on Vršič (1688 m), the lowest are Piran and Sečoveljske soline (1 m).
You can better experience this unique project in our country and wider in Europe on Saturday, September 11, 2021, when we will simultaneously set out on all 41 stages. The stages vary in difficulty, most trails are not particularly technically demanding, as they appeal to a wide range of touring cyclists. On average, stages are 40 to 50 km long with an estimated six hours of riding one way.
Last year, more than 300 cyclists participated in the event across 41 different stages, and PZS hopes this year's number will be even higher. "When we organized the event for the first time three years ago, we had clear goals ahead. First, to inform the general public about the new circular cycling trail in Slovenia, to present touring cycling as an alpine activity, and above all to raise awareness about the proper practice of touring cycling, which has been gaining more followers in recent years. With this one-day event, we want to reach as wide a range of touring cyclists as possible and promote visiting the mountains by bike in a nature-friendly way," says the head of the PZS Commission for Touring Cycling, Atila Armentano.
As every year, this year's STKP tour will also be dedicated to learning the basics of touring cycling etiquette, which is very similar to alpine etiquette.
Regarding concerns that may accompany you before this challenge, PZS expert collaborator and Migimigi ambassador Matjaž Šerkezi reassures: "All concerns that it's too difficult, that others will be too fast, that your bike is not suitable..., are unnecessary. Experienced touring cycling guides will be with you, who know how to adjust the pace to the weakest in the group. And not only that. We will enjoy the wonderful landscape, with crazy views and in pleasant company. Laughter and joy will overcome all those climbs. You need a mountain bike, helmet, backpack with snacks, and a lot of good mood. Gather courage and join us on September 11."
"Less or more experienced cyclists, don't miss the wonderful cycling experience at the STKP1DAN event, where you will entrust yourself to experienced cycling guides and organized return to the starting point itself. Choose an unknown stage and thus discover a new beautiful piece of Slovenia," invites Boštjan Jenko from Generali insurance company to this special cycling experience.
The touring cycling tour will be carried out in accordance with the currently applicable measures to prevent coronavirus infections. The number of participants per stage is limited, so registration via the Migimigi portal www.migimigi.si/stkp1dan is mandatory.
The STKP in one day event is being prepared in collaboration by alpine associations or touring cycling sections and their touring cycling guides, as well as the PZS Commission for Touring Cycling with the support of partner Generali insurance company.
