The Slovenia Forest Service plans to cull 75 bears and 11 wolves in 2008. Animal rights activists strongly oppose this proposal, believing that culling will not solve the problem. They advocate for capture and relocation to other areas.
The brown bear causes the most damage to agricultural land in western and southern Slovenia. The damage caused by bears exceeds 50% of all damage caused by wild animals.
The Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning has not yet issued an opinion on the culling of the brown bear.
