Cycling on section 5 of STKP due to...
12.04.2024
Cycling on section 5 of the STKP is prohibited until 15 June due to capercaillie mating.
The Triglav National Park Public Institute informs that cycling on the section Planina Klek–Stresena dolina–road along the bottom of Radovna Valley (5th stage of Slovenian Mountain Bike Trail: Planinska koča na Uskovnici–Aljažev dom v Vratih) is not permitted until 15 June. The trail passes through a quiet area for the capercaillie, which during the mating period requires peace and quiet and is extremely sensitive to any disturbance in the environment.
Dear cyclists, their friends, initiators and organizers of cycling trips, bike rental providers, and nature friends!
Cycling on the section Planina Klek-Stresena dolina-road along the bottom of Radovna Valley (5th stage of Slovenian Mountain Bike Trail: Planinska koča na Uskovnici-Aljažev dom v Vratih or 2nd stage of Juliana Bike trail: Goreljek-Kranjska Gora) can be a wonderful experience regardless of the direction. But if you do it these days, you may cause irreversible damage to nature and the contents of your wallet.
Cycling on this section is not permitted until 15 June. The prohibition applies in both directions and is marked with signs both in Radovna and on Pokljuka at the turn-off to Planina Klek. The trail passes through a quiet area for the capercaillie, which during the mating period requires peace and quiet and is extremely sensitive to any disturbance in the environment.
Quiet areas on Pokljuka and permitted ways of visiting or using them were agreed with stakeholders and established within the VrH Julijcev project.
Triglav National Park nature conservation supervisors note that many cyclists do not comply with the prohibition in this area, so they will intensify monitoring and impose fines on violators.
The fine for individual cyclists who do not comply with the prohibition and do not wish to postpone their cycling pleasure in this area until after 15 June is between 100 and 1000 euros.
Thank you for following the rules!
