Dom na Osankarica Hut Burns Down

At 20:02, firefighters were notified that a large fire broke out at Dom na Osankarica on Pohorje, spreading to the forest. Several fire units were activated.


Branko Hojnik, civil protection commander for the Slovenska Bistrica area, explained to the bistrican.si portal that 120 firefighters were on site. The mountain hut burned down completely and is no longer usable, so firefighters focused on saving the museum section and the forest, the portal reports.

The hut lies at an elevation of 1,200 meters, in a peaceful location surrounded by forest, a stream, and hiking trails. Next to Dom na Osankarica is the Pohorje Battalion museum and a memorial site. As a starting point, Dom na Osankarica is ideal for trips to Črno jezero, Areh, Šumik waterfall, Klopni vrh, and Rogla, as stated on the website of the Turistično-informacijski center Slovenska Bistrica.

The hut had received a new tenant last year with ambitious plans, writes Večer.
