Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay were the first humans to reach the highest peak on our planet on 29.5.1953. Mount Everest, the 8848 m high mountain, was later conquered by others, including several Slovenians. The first Slovenians to reach the summit were Nejc Zaplotnik and Andrej Štremfelj, who reached the top in 1979.
Edmund Hillary was born on 19.7.1919 in Auckland (New Zealand).
