Fire raging above Srednji Vrh, planes and helicopter in the air

Above the village of Srednji Vrh in the municipality of Kranjska Gora, a fire has broken out. Since early morning, three Air Tractor planes and a Slovenian Army helicopter have been on site, the Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief reported.

Kranjska Gora police officers were notified today shortly before 3:30 about a fire on difficult-to-access terrain above Srednji Vrh in the area of the municipality of Kranjska Gora.

Firefighters from the voluntary fire brigades Srednji Vrh and Gozd - Martuljek have been fighting the fire since 4 a.m. The fire has been located and is not spreading, the Kranj Police Directorate reported. It is burning on an area of approximately four hectares, and the cause of the fire is most likely a lightning strike.

Water is being taken from Lake Jasna
Three Air Tractor planes and a Slovenian Army helicopter are fighting the flames. The helicopter takes water from Lake Jasna, so the Municipality of Kranjska Gora asks all visitors not to enter the water intake corridor and to follow the instructions of the firefighters.

Also on site are the drone unit of the national rapid rescue intervention unit and air force coordinators.

A notice about the fire was also published on the website of the Municipality of Kranjska Gora. Visitors are asked not to stay in the wider area of the fire in the Karavanke, where the fire is being extinguished with helicopters and planes.
