First national championship competition very interesting for sport climbers.
The PZS Sport Climbing Commission in collaboration with the Korenjak Sport Climbing Club is announcing the 1st round of the national bouldering championship for all categories. The competition will be from Saturday, September 5, to Sunday, September 6, 2020, on the bouldering wall in the Sports Park at Log near Brezovica. Since international competitions are very limited this year, national competitions are all the more interesting for climbers.
In bouldering, the youngest and junior categories of climbers, as well as members of the Slovenian sport climbing national team, will compete. Among the competitors will be the best Slovenian climbers who perform and win in the World Cup. Janja Garnbret and Domen Škofic will also compete, who won medals at the last international competition in France.
In French Briançon, Domen Škofic won an excellent second place at the international lead climbing competition, and his training this year has been mostly focused on preparations for World Cup lead events. "I have no special expectations for the national championship. I just hope to enjoy it, which is the most important thing to me."
Vita Lukan was fifth in Briançon and stepped onto the top podium at Sunday's climbing spectacle Triglav The Rock Ljubljana. She agrees that this year's national championships will mean exceptionally much to the competitors, as these are among the few competitions that will take place this season. "Even though only Slovenian women will compete at the event, I'm looking forward to feeling some adrenaline again. I'm not stressing about expectations, because I know that with the good and consistent form I've been showing lately, I can also show at Log what I'm currently capable of. However, on the other hand, I realize that things can turn around quickly at competitions, since one misread boulder makes a big difference. Fortunately, with the national team over the summer we did quite a few competition simulations, so I think some competitive rhythm remains."
Not only the international competition, but this year's national championship has also survived and will be limited due to COVID-19 conditions. "Fortunately, this weekend is the first bouldering competition, and the bright side of it is that we are all eager for competitions, which means we can expect all the best competitors at Log. The National Institute of Public Health has allowed the organizer, since the competition is outdoors, to have spectators watching live. We must know that the audience in climbing always adds the finishing touch and squeezes an extra percentage of power from the competitors," says Gorazd Hren, selector of the Slovenian sport climbing national team, looking forward to the competition.
The competition venue will be in the Sports Park at Log near Brezovica. The competition will start on Saturday at 9 a.m. and last until 20:40, on Sunday from 9:00 to 21:40.
This year, provision has also been made so that the competition can be watched from the home couch. The Sunday final can be watched on the Facebook page Slovenia Claimbing Team. The live broadcast starts at 19:45, and the broadcast will be commented by journalist Matej Hrastar and sport climber Mina Markovič, who in 2021 achieved her second World Cup bouldering win on this very wall.
Next weekend on Saturday, September 12, there will be the first national speed championship competition for all categories. The competition will take place in the sports hall of the 1st Primary School Celje. Unfortunately, there will be no spectators at the competition, only one club representative or coach per person in the hall.
When the next World Cup competitions will be is hard to know. For now, it is confirmed that the European sport climbing championship will be in Moscow in November. The International Sport Climbing Federation has indeed canceled the competition in Salt Lake City in the USA and Seoul in South Korea these days.
In Ljubljana this year we could not organize the premiere World Cup sport climbing competition, which was planned for September 25 and 26 in Stožice Hall. We will try to organize the competition next year the first weekend of September.
