Heavy rainfall, avalanches, and floods!
23.12.2009
A pronounced and extensive weather disturbance is approaching Slovenia, bringing heavy precipitation. In the high mountains of the Julian Alps, up to more than 2 m of new snow could fall by Saturday morning, so the already high risk of avalanche release will increase further. The snow line will be high, occasionally above 2000 m, so lower down the snow will melt and additionally contribute to water volumes. Due to soil saturation, landslides will occur mainly in the foothills of the Julian Alps. Most rivers in western, southern, and partly central and northern Slovenia will flood.
