In Logar Valley, after the storm when a huge mass of rocks and stones thundered into the valley on Saturday night, they started extensive repairs to the road and parking lot below Rinka Waterfall this morning. The restoration will certainly take several days.
They partially opened the road to the parking lot below Rinka Waterfall already on Saturday, but before fully restoring it, a lot more time will pass. "There is a huge amount. It is not yet known if the barriers below remained or were washed away," explained Franc Brlec from the construction company Brlec. He added that the bed of the Savinja River is also severely damaged. "With the next rain, the refreshment stand here will be threatened, as the riverbed is now higher than both the parking lot and the road."
Hiking trail to Okrešelj open again, not yet to Kamniško sedlo
Visitors are plentiful. Hikers cleared the path to the magnificent 90-meter-high Rinka Waterfall already on Saturday, but it is still quite damaged: "We feel terrible that this happened. We have come here to the waterfall many times, and further to Okrešelj, and it is terrible, terrible," said two hikers from Ljubljana.
Yesterday, hikers managed to reach Okrešelj as well; they repaired the trail enough to make it passable again. "Today and tomorrow we must restore electricity to Okrešelj too, as all the cables were torn out," explained Brane Povše, president of the Celje mountaineering club Matica. Access to Kamniško sedlo will not be possible for at least a few more days. "On one section, it created a ditch 10 meters long and 4 meters deep," Povše added.
The caretaker of Orlovo gnezdo at Rinka Waterfall, Martina Logar, also suffered a major blow. Last year, she and her husband took over the cabin at Okrešelj as well. "Last year we were closed due to floods, now this landslide, so you can't do anything," notes the interlocutor.
Too early for an exact damage assessment, but it will be substantial
The total damage caused by this storm in the Municipality of Solčava has not yet been assessed. But it is already clear that it will be considerable.
