In Posočje, two new cross-border lines will come to life...

19.06.2025
In Posočje, two new cross-border public passenger transport lines will come to life.

The lines follow the implementation of the agreement adopted last year by Slovenia and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
With the start of summer holidays, two new cross-border bus lines of public passenger transport will begin operating in Posočje. The year-round Bovec–Predel–Kranjska Gora line will be launched on 20 June, while the Tolmin–Kobarid–Cividale line will operate in July and August.

The Public Passenger Transport Management Company (DUJPP) highlighted in its press release that the traffic load on Trenta and Vršič Pass during the season is exceptional, which is why it also offers an expanded range of bus services this year both along the Trenta Valley and with a connection to Kranjska Gora.

In collaboration with the Regional Mobility Centre Northern Primorska, which operates under the Posočje Development Centre, the Bovec–Predel–Kranjska Gora line has been established, which will start operating on 20 June. As explained by DUJPP, the line was created by considering the shortest route connection between the upper Posočje and Gorenjska via Predel Pass and Italy. In summer, this connection will be particularly important for visitors, while in the rest of the year it will be welcome for pupils and students.

According to Aleksander Đurič, head of bus transport at DUJPP, they are already preparing to enhance bus services next year with the announced change in the Vršič regime.

Meanwhile, starting 1 July, the Tolmin–Kobarid–Cividale line will begin operating, connecting Tolmin and the border Cividale again in July and August. As stated by DUJPP, the line will enable access to the bathing area along the Natisone, a visit to Cividale or the use of local public passenger transport connections in the multimodal centre.

The line's financing is carried out within the Slovenian-Italian Adrioncycletour project.

Systematically regulated financing
"Both lines follow the implementation of the agreement adopted last year by Slovenia and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, which enables mutual cooperation in connecting public passenger transport in the cross-border area," said Miro Kristan, head of the Regional Mobility Centre Northern Primorska at the Posočje Development Centre.

Bovec Mayor Valter Mlekuž expressed enthusiasm over the fact that the financing of the two bus lines is systematically regulated. "The year-round bus line between Bovec and Kranjska Gora with a connection to Ljubljana as an upgrade to seasonal bus connections will greatly contribute primarily to reducing the carbon footprint and will at least partially reduce the traffic load in the area," he is convinced.
