Initiative for declaring a national holiday

2.12.2025
Triglav is the highest Slovenian peak, our symbol and part of our national coat of arms, and this year marks 130 years since Jakob Aljaž erected the tower on top of Triglav, which still proudly stands as a symbol of Slovenian identity and cultural heritage. Mountain lovers can support the initiative by signing to declare a new national holiday - Triglav Day.

There is an active petition to amend the Holidays and Work-Free Days Act, which would declare August 7 - the day of the erection of the Aljaž Tower - a national holiday, Triglav Day (the holiday would not be a work-free day). This is an opportunity for all mountain lovers and our homeland to show respect for our heritage and the symbolism that unites us.

Why support the initiative?

• Because Triglav is not just a mountain, but the heart of Slovenian identity;
• because the holiday promotes respect for nature, cultural heritage, and mountaineering;
• because it reminds us of responsible behavior in the mountain world and the importance of sustainability.

How can you support the initiative?
Until December 28, 2025, you can express your support by signing in person at administrative units or local offices (free of charge, you only need your ID card) and electronically, with a digital certificate via the eUprava portal.
