Janja Garnbret again a candidate for athlete of the year...

8.01.2020
Janja Garnbret again a candidate for athlete of the year at The World Games.

Among the candidates for athlete of the year 2019 in non-Olympic sports is Janja Garnbret for the second consecutive year, the only representative of sport climbing and Slovenia in this prestigious international selection of The World Games. The first round of voting runs from January 8 to 20, 2020, and voting for the 10 finalists will be possible until January 30. Cast your vote for the best female sport climber in the world!

Slovenia's athlete of the year and the world's best sport climber Janja Garnbret made history last year as the only one to win all World Cup events in bouldering in the season and the only one to win three world champion titles at the same world championship - in bouldering and lead climbing as well as combined, which widely opened the doors to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games for her. The 20-year-old Carinthian won a total of twelve medals at the biggest competitions in the exceptional 2019 season.

Garnbret is among the candidates for athlete of the year 2019 in non-Olympic sports for the second consecutive year, held under the auspices of the International World Games Association (IWGA). Last year she placed eighth, this year she competes for the best possible placement among 25 athletes from 18 countries as the only representative of sport climbing and Slovenia.

You can vote for the queen of sport climbing on the website theworldgames.org >>>. A vote can be cast once per day from a single device (computer, phone) or IP address, and you always have to vote for two athletes at the same time. The first round of voting runs from January 8 to 20, and the final round, where the top ten athletes will qualify, until January 30.

Last year's World Games Athletes of the Year were Russian acrobatic gymnasts Marina Chernova and Georgi Pataraia, and in 2018 it was the world record holder in speed climbing, Iranian Reza Alipourshenazandifar. Sport climbing celebrated with Adam Ondra already in 2014, when the famous Czech became world champion in bouldering and lead climbing.

The World Games are comparable to world championships, IWGA organizes them every four years after the summer Olympic Games. Their main goal is to popularize sports, some of which later become part of the Olympic Games, as sport climbing will experience its Olympic debut in August this year in Tokyo, Japan, where Mia Krampl, a teammate of Garnbret, has also qualified.
