Krn Lakes Hut opens winter season

The Mountaineering Club Nova Gorica announces that this year the Krn Lakes Hut will be open and normally serviced during the winter season, starting from March 26, 2016 onwards.

For the second consecutive year, we are opening the Krn Lakes Hut also during the winter period. The hut is an excellent base for various tours in the Krn Mountains group during this time. You can head to the surrounding peaks, which offer excellent ski touring descents of all difficulties, from the easiest ski runs suitable also for beginners to the most demanding alpinistic descents. The hut together with Krn Lake can also be an independent destination for hikers, while the surroundings of the hut provide numerous opportunities for various trainings and courses.



Access routes:

from Lepena (1.5 to 2.5 hours), where there is a parking area, the road is regularly maintained during winter;

from Planina Kuhinja (by car from Kobarid or Tolmin) via Krn Notch (technically more demanding, 5 to 6 hours) or through Lužnica Valley (easier, 5 to 6 hours);

from the direction of Komna (Bohinj) or Triglav Lakes via Vratca Saddle (Bogatinsko sedlo).



In the hut, we will ensure you feel good, are not hungry or thirsty after your tour, and are comfortably accommodated. During winter, a limited number of beds (34) will be available, so we recommend reservations or prior notice for larger groups.



Equipment transport by cargo cableway:

In case of need for equipment transport from Lepena, contact the hut warden or office. We also recommend a prior call before the transport itself. (GSM signal is occasionally weak). We also warn that the upper station of the cargo cableway is about half an hour's walk from the hut itself.
