More than half a meter of snow in the mountains already
6.11.2009
In Slovenia, occasional precipitation has been occurring since the beginning of the week, slowly thickening the snow cover in the mountains. In the high mountains of the Julian Alps, especially on the mountain barriers between Gorenjska and Primorska, the snow cover is already around 60 cm thick, elsewhere above 1500 m from 20 to 50 cm.
Tomorrow, Saturday, the weather will temporarily improve partially, but we do not expect major clearings, except perhaps on the highest peaks.
Already on Sunday, we expect a new deterioration of the weather with precipitation. On Sunday during the day and in the night to Monday it will be cloudy with precipitation. The snow line will be between 700 and 1000 m above sea level. By Monday evening, another 20 to 40 cm of snow can fall locally.
The avalanche danger in the mountains will increase slightly. Currently, it is at the 2nd degree on the European five-level scale.
