Mountain Conditions 14.11.2008
14.11.2008
Yesterday it was cloudy in the mountains with snowfall, but the precipitation has mostly ceased everywhere by this morning. The snow line dropped from the initial 1800m below 1300m in places, but since the snow lower down was wet, it remained only above 1400m. In the Karawanks and Kamnik-Savinja Alps, the snow line was slightly higher.
The most snow fell in the high terrain of the western Julians, around 50cm there, less elsewhere. The total snow depth in the Julian Alps at 2500m is 80 to 100cm, at 1500m about 10cm.
Elsewhere in the mountains, the snow cover starts above 1500m, and even at higher elevations it is considerably less than in the Julians.
Increased avalanche danger in the high mountains (especially) of the Julian Alps.
Today the weather in the mountains will gradually improve. Tomorrow and Sunday it will be sunny on the Primorska and in the high mountains, low cloudiness lingering elsewhere.
