The Mountain Hut under Ježa started operating on 6 August 2016.
The hut will be open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
The Mountain Hut Pod Ježa, managed by the mountaineering association Valentin Stanič from Kanal, is located in the hamlet Kuščarji along the ridge road on Kanal Kolovrat, connecting Goriška Brda with Kobarid below the foothills of Ježa at 740 m above sea level. The now renovated hut was formerly a border guard post. The hut has an ideal location for both hiking and cycling, as the ridge road and Kolovrat peaks offer a magnificent view: to the north across the Soča Valley to the Alps, to the south across Benečija and Matajur to the Friulian Plain all the way to the sea. Cyclists and motorcyclists, hikers and day-trippers can take a rest with us - all those who enjoy the picturesque landscape of western Slovenia and explore the remnants of the First World War along the former "iron border" with Italy. The surroundings of the hut offer a pleasant walk to the pools of the Idrija River, to the Doblarca gorges or to viewpoints above the emerald Soča River.
In addition to the hut being open on weekends, we plan to offer other usage options such as mountaineering camps, training sessions and other activities related to mountaineering, recreation and sports. These activities can be carried out throughout the year, as the hut is accessible even in winter.
Access: by car:
• Along the local road from Most na Soči, via Sela pri Volčah and Volčanski rut, to the parking lot in front of the hut, 13 km.
• Along the regional and local road from Kanal, via Ročinj and Kambreško, to the parking lot in front of the hut, 16 km.
• The hut can also be reached via Solarji pass, and the pass from Volče or Livka.
There are no marked trails from the valley to the mountain hut.
