The Mountain Rescue Association of Slovenia warns that the serac above Pripravniška grapa in Mali Mojstrovka has a large crack and it is only a matter of time before it breaks off, so they advise against ascents along it. The avalanche danger in the mountains is currently low, but the risk of slips is higher.
The serac above Pripravniška grapa in Mali Mojstrovka has a large crack, warn the Mountain Rescue Association of Slovenia, and they add that it is only a matter of time before it breaks off. Until then, they advise against ascents in that area.
"Think twice before venturing into gullies or walls above which seracs hang. Do not forget about them even when walking along the edges of ridges ... you might be walking on 'air'. Therefore, the recommendation is not to walk on the extreme edges of ridges - it is safer a few meters below them," they wrote on the Alpine Association of Slovenia.
As stated in the report of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Protection and Rescue, the avalanche danger in the mountains is currently mostly low, namely 1st degree. The danger of smaller slab avalanches is exceptionally possible under greater load mainly on southern slopes – the possibility is greater midday and in the afternoon. Since many slopes are icy, the risk of slips is higher. The snow cover is mostly hard, partly icy, only in sheltered locations in the high mountains is there some soft snow, as also stated in the report.
