Yesterday shortly before 11 a.m., a 74-year-old hiker, an Austrian citizen, suffered a fatal accident on Mangart.
She went together with a friend and her son along the Slovenian route towards the summit of Mangart. When she reached about 150 meters into the climbing section, she couldn't manage the rock step, so she unclipped her safety harness and tried to go over the rock step a bit further right. When she grabbed the rock with her hand, it broke off and she fell into the abyss about 40 meters deep, where she lay dead on a rock overhang.
Members of the Mountain Rescue Service reached her on foot, then lifted her into the helicopter and took her to the airport in Bovec. (text:24ur.com)
